As I start my spring break I was asked by my professor, who is teaching sociology of food, to fast Thursday night into Friday afternoon so that we were able to experience hunger. I did not experience so much uncomfortable pain. I could sleep, I couldn't think straight and I was tired. I didn't have much strength and I was wicked irritable. Once I ate something I didn't care what it was. It tasted amazing! I finally understood and experienced what thousands of people in the world who go through hunger, but has to experience everyday. I just can't believe that it took that to make me realize. Hunger is no joke!

Wow, that is really interesting. I did not fast right before break, however I have fasted many times before for the jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. Although it is really not even a full days fast (or at least my family does not) i know exactly how it feels to have no energy and be irritable. This made me wonder, do other religions, or cultures have their own specific fasting days? Has anyone else on this forum ever fasted for a period of time? feel free to discuss below!
